The PSOE denounces that 400 students from Pliego need the regional government to stop delaying the construction of a new school (20/04/2018)

The Socialist spokesman Joaquin Lopez Pagan and Mayor Pedro Noguera also claim the settlement of the RM-515 highway, since it is one of the busiest exits in the municipality and is in very poor condition, in addition to the enhancement of the deposit of La Almoloya, an international benchmark of the Bronze Age

The spokesman of the Socialist Parliamentary Group Joaquín López Pagán, together with the deputy Choni Ludeña and the mayor of Pliego Pedro Noguera have celebrated this morning a working meeting to address the main needs of the municipality.

López Pagán indicated that although Pliego is a small municipality, it deserves the attention of the regional government.

"We demand attention to small municipalities such as Pliego, which are threatened by the depopulation of rural areas and require actions in communication, educational and social infrastructures for the inhabitants themselves and investments for the enhancement of cultural and natural heritage, for promote its tourism potential ".

In this sense, he demanded the regional president to be "diligent and not delay the works of the new school, since 400 school children are waiting for this new center."

The PSOE has presented various initiatives both in the City Council and in the Regional Assembly interested in the new school of Infant and Primary 'Pascual Martínez Abellán'.

During 2016-2017, one million euros for its construction was included in the regional budgets.

However, when the budget was not implemented, it obliged the City Council to assume the center's project with its own funds.

In addition, the consistory yielded a land of 10,000 square meters, so there are no excuses to delay the construction of it.

This year the CARM has drastically reduced the budget and of the 900,000 euros planned, it has reduced the game to 100,000 euros.

Joaquín López demanded that the regional government "not punish the citizens of Pliego who need that school and invest what was initially committed".

Highway RM-515

Another problem that the municipality presents is road safety and infrastructures, fundamental in small territories such as Pliego to unite the territory and to have equal opportunities.

In this sense, López Pagán and Noguera said that it is necessary to complete the RM-515 road between Pliego and Alhama, since it is a narrow road, with very dangerous curves and pavement in poor condition in its 23.5 kilometers of length.

This road is one of the most important departures of the municipality, both for the daily traffic that is produced by the displacement of workers, as well as for the hundreds of citizens of the region of the Mula River, which in the summer transpose it to go to the beach.

This road crosses the Sierra Espuña Regional Park and gives access to the districts of Gebas, Fuente Librilla and El Berro.

In 2017, some urgent actions were carried out, although insufficient to fix the damage to the road, as the road surface is still very deteriorated and represents a danger to traffic.

It also requires actions in the crossing of this regional road as it passes through the center of the municipality, as there are damaged traffic lights and pedestrian crossings that are not properly marked.

In addition, the accesses to the Federico Balart Institute, which face this road, lack a zebra crossing so that schoolchildren can cross without danger.

Both the socialist spokesman and the mayor said that the settlement of RM-515 is not only a request for Pliego, but the Commonwealth of Tourism Services of Sierra Espuña, which are part Alhama, Aledo, Mula, and Totana.

Joaquín López demanded multi-year actions for its repair and maintenance.

"We ask López Miras not to be harsh with the projects of the small municipalities of the Region and invest what is necessary to guarantee the quality of life of its inhabitants."

Finally, the mayor Pedro Noguera stressed that the City is making a great effort to enhance the archaeological site of La Almoloya, an international reference of the Bronze Age.

Pedro Noguera indicated that the City Council is in talks for the cession of the land where the deposit is located.

Therefore, it requests funding to continue excavations by the Community and the State.

He added that they are working on a project to locate the museum and interpretation center in the Casa de la Tercia, a 19th century mansion located in the center of town.
