UPyD Murcia Region expresses its condolences to the family and friends of José González, and deeply regrets the death of this worker, loved and appreciated by their fellow citizens.
Regrets that, once again, public authorities have to be self-critical about the accidents occurred in the region, the result of a disastrous policy on risk prevention.
Spanish law requires the use of safety harness work with a risk of falling at different heights above 1.5 meters.
UPyD wonders why this study found no protection to 5 meters when the accident occurred, meaning that it is the responsibility of the company (in this case the City) that its employees comply with the protocol for the prevention of occupational hazards.
UPyD believes that the Consistory should explain whether there was a draft risk assessment and prevention for the job, including proper training and information to workers about it.
In addition, there are doubts about whether there were proper work procedures and precautions necessary, since the terraces visited public buildings have no lifelines.
To UPyD, it is not understandable nor acceptable that inspections of work performed after the fact, when it should happen instead, and focus toward prevention and away the penalty.
