The study points out that more than half of the population that needs help receives it from family members, and raises the need for the start-up of a Day Center and a classroom for cognitive stimulation

This week has been registered in the Municipality of Pliego a descriptive cross-sectional study of prevalence on the needs of the elderly in the municipality, as well as the demands they present and the resources available to ensure a quality of life appropriate to their needs. needs

Emerged from a proposal of the government team to the management of the Commonwealth of Social Services 'Río Mula', this document has been presented a few days ago in the Consistory by the technicians of the Commonwealth who have carried it out.

According to the elderly people who participated in this study, it is concluded that more than half of the population that needs support or help to carry out activities in their daily life resort to the family, especially children or spouses, and especially the gender female.

The most outstanding data are that 30% of the elderly people who have participated in this study have a cognitive impairment, 42% have a recognized degree of dependency and 70% suffer from a notable physical deterioration, something that places this issue as one of the great priorities of the municipality in view of the high number of elderly people residing in the municipality.

In the approach of the study, two very necessary proposals are aimed at providing services to this population sector and facing cognitive and physical deterioration with different actions.

On the one hand, there is a strong need for the start-up of a Day Center for the elderly and to carry out an information campaign about the different services that can be offered in it, since the study itself identifies certain ignorance of all the activities and resources that can be carried out in the Day Center.

On the other hand, the study considers the start-up of a classroom of cognitive stimulation with continuity and periodic, in line with the workshops that are already being carried out for the second consecutive year in the practices of the students of the 1st Formative Cycle attention to people in situation of dependency of the Institute of Secondary Education Federico Balart de Pliego.
