The Director of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage, Enrique Ujaldón, today made the replica of the sundial, which belongs to the City of Pliego, which governed at the time the irrigation runs the town.
He was accompanied at the ceremony the mayor of the town, Isabel Toledo, a professor at the University of Murcia Francisco Chacón and Cajamurcia Foundation Manager, Pascual Martínez.
A consequence of the disappearance of the sundial of the raft of regulatory risks of Pliego, the City requested the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, through the Centre for Restoration, execute the work aimed at making a replica of it.
Thanks to the technical drawings of the Town Council has been able to address and solve this project.
The original sundial was the oldest in the region dating from 1751.
Was carved in stone and on a round column.
Long was used to regulate irrigation batches of farmers who were entitled to water from the raft.
Represented a sun with a human face and was very precise, because it marks the hours, half, quarters and even a sign of seven minutes and 30 seconds.
For replication was selected azaraque beige natural stone, its physical and mechanical characteristics.
