The Ministry of Culture and Tourism promotes the statement of the Sima de la Higuera, located in Pliego, as World Natural Heritage.

Cruz said that this statement "would make Pliego in authentic Spanish Mediterranean natural capital, which would impact cultural, tourist and unprecedented economic."
