The town of Pliego held yesterday the opening of the Jubilee Year Santiaguista granted by the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena to the parish for its 500th anniversary.
Bishop Jose Manuel Lorca Planes presided at Episcopal Vicar accompanied by the Pastoral Zone Caravaca-Mula, D.
Jesus Aguilar, the pastor of St. James of Pliego, D.
Angel Soler, and a dozen priests.
Among the faithful was the mayor of Pliego, Mrs..
Isabel Toledo, the Minister of the Presidency, D.
Manuel Campos, and the Minister of Public Works, D.
Antonio Sevilla, as well as representatives of municipal corporations throughout the Northwest region.
At the beginning of the celebration was read the decree granted to Bishop Lorca Plans Pliego holding a Jubilee Year for the 500th anniversary of the parish of St. James, likewise also read the decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary endorsing the the Bishopric.
The Diocesan Pastor called austerity in this jubilee celebrations, "not a time of extravagance, whether to spend more than is in favor of those who need it most," said Bishop Lorca Planes.
During his homily, the bishop encouraged plegueros to enjoy this year of going always to the example of the patron saint, the Virgin of the Remedies.
"You are also examples of faith that have stood for 500 years, in the midst of difficulties, faithful to the Lord. Pliego's people live their faith experience with Mary".
Before the end of the Eucharist, all present Jubilee Prayer read together, prayed for the intentions of the Holy Father received the apostolic blessing.

After the Eucharist Bishop Lorca Plans unveiled a plaque commemorating the celebration of this year in the churchyard.
All pilgrims during this year of grace for Pliego want to obtain the Plenary Indulgence will have to participate in the retirement ceremony will begin each day at 11:30 am in the chapel of Our Lady of Remedies, with a celebration of the Word, and from there on foot to the parish of St. James which will take place at 12:00 pm, the Mass of the Pilgrim.
In addition to gaining the Jubilee, will have to confession and communion during this celebration or fifteen days before or after it.
